Tucson is becoming one of the nation’s centers of an ugly epidemic: graffiti. According to local authorities, graffiti is on the rise, and police are having difficulty curbing the phenomenon. In 2009 Tucson saw about eight thousand incidents, while in 2010 there were almost 38,000. In just the first half of 2011 there were already a whopping 75,800 incidents. Police have been employing Tucson, Arizona cleaning services to cover up the vandalism as soon as possible, saying the perpetrators crave the attention and notoriety their graffiti provides. However, the city only covers up graffiti inscribed on public property and doesn’t get involved when private homes or businesses are targeted.
